The Evolution of "Cyn's Diaper Creations"

I know this is silly, but I just had to post these or I'll never know how drastic my diaper cakes have evolved over the years.  Unfortunately, I never took a picture of my very FIRST diaper cake that I made for my cousin, Fe.  It was for her baby shower for her first daughter.  Eventually, I'll ask her for the pic and just add it on here.

For now, I'll start with my second diaper cake that I made for my Uncle John and Auntie Beth's baby shower in 2004, and conclude with my most recent diaper cake which was for my cousin Marysol's baby shower just last week.

This is my last "rolled" style diaper cake. I just can't go back to this anymore. The cake would've been prettier if the diapers were fanned. But I didn't know any better at the time. I was still discovering the "diaper cake" world. haha!
Picture
My first attempt at fanning out the diapers as opposed to rolling them. I could've at least covered the wooden dowel with ribbon and decorated the cake board with a blue tissue sheet. Oh well, I'm still experimenting and learning here.

Very similar to the blue diaper cake above, but now I finally covered the cake board with a pink tissue sheet!

My failed attempt at making diaper cupcakes. I never went back to this. It ended up looking more like little flowers instead of cupcakes. I used coffee filters to look like cupcake liners. LoL, keep trying..

This is my first time using receiving blankets in a diaper cake. The top and bottom tiers are "frosted" with receiving blankets. I also tried to make a fan out of another receiving blanket on the top tier, but it looks more like a fancy restaurant napkin!

I had fun making this one! The whole diaper cake is frosted with receiving blankets. I also staggered the flowers diagonally instead of just straight in a line. And you can't really see but I tried to make roses on the top tier with baby washcloths. It didn't look so pretty so I covered it with the flower. But I love the print and colors of the blankets!

This is a diaper cupcake (middle). I only made one though. The wannabe "frappucino" and "smoothie" are really baby washcloths in brown and blue, topped with white onesies. Don't they look edible? Not.. lol

My first time using stuffed animals as an accessory to my diaper cakes. I was skeptical at first, but when I got into it, I couldn't help but add more stuffed animals to the mix! This diaper cake was for a "Noah's Ark" themed baby shower.
Picture
Now we're getting into "square diaper cake" territory! Each diaper is folded in half and connected to another diaper folded in half. Still time-consuming like the "rolled diaper cake" style..but much more neater. I think I added too much crinkled paper in this cake. Still working out the kinks here!
Picture
Another square diaper cake, but my first time using die-cut lettering and die-cut shapes in my cakes. This cake could use a little more to it..but what? Still learning and working it out!
Picture
Had extra diapers from my green square diaper cake so I used it to make a one-tiered "frosted" diaper cake. I also had an extra stuffed animal so I had to use it somewhere!!! I should've kept the doll now that I look at it, because he's really cute!
Picture
My favorite square diaper cake! I also found a cute pink tissue sheet that I used for the cake board.

I wish I had a better looking shot of my latest diaper cake. Pictures don't look so good when they're from the iphone..especially the background and lighting.
